      Description

Our current Linux/MacOS strategy is to add a marker variable to the process's environment and kill all the processes with that marker in their environment. We hope that children will pass it along to processes they spawn, but they don't always (see EVG-12948)

An alternative could be to use process groups. If we assign a process group to processes we spawn it will be inherited, by default, by the grandchildren and could be a marker for cleaning up.
