We see a lot of debugging questions for Mongoid 3 when the answer ends up being "requires 1.9.3". The opaque failure and lack guidance within Mongoid caused people to lose time when debugging the relatively simple fix.

I've added a version checker that runs immediately and provides feedback to the developer. It logs to STDOUT and a Rails logger if present.
