It would be good for performance and other work to allow read-only mode databases to write statistics log. MongoDB does not turn on statistics logging so a user running read-only would have to explicitly craft a configuration to turn it on. But for our performance and debugging it is helpful to be able to run with and without read-only mode and compare.
