I think the docs should recommend Secure Channel on Windows and Secure Transport on macOS. macOS is the biggest pain point, since Apple no longer ships OpenSSL headers and the OpenSSL on pre-10.13 versions doesn't support TLS 1.1+. |

OpenSSL 1.0.1+ is all that's necessary. OpenSSL 1.1 is pretty cutting edge. Very few distros provide it. |
