The new driver uses non-blocking sockets (even when working synchronously), and the timeout is enforced using poll(). See https://github.com/chergert/libmongoc/blob/82d0a3b492dc608ad5a1afe5a58be9e018fc5762/mongoc/mongoc-client.c#L77 for the connection code. |

From CS-4106, also check return from IO operations for failure due to timeout and take appropriate action. |
