The initial problem seems to have been solved.
The segmentation fault problem is tracked in COMPASS-3361 which will be solved in the next few days when 1.18 is out.

@Igor Agenor Piovezan: Also see https://jira.mongodb.org/browse/COMPASS-3361.

I am experience the same problem. This occurs when try start:

mongodb-compass-beta
[1] 6170 segmentation fault (core dumped) mongodb-compass-beta

sudo mongodb-compass-beta ✘ 139
[1] 7172 segmentation fault sudo mongodb-compass-beta

I tested with version 1.17.0-beta.4 and with 1.16.3. I am using Fedora 29.

Someone have some tip to contribute to solve this problem?

I wish to contribute.

so I got the MongoDB compass GUI to load up now. I was executing the command using root and I am guessing it did not like that. I used my user account with sudo privileges as well as a regular non privileged account and it worked with no issues. However when using another specific user account we have set up for our server, the command wont load the GUI for some reason. Are there any account specific values that would cause the software to behave this way in not  loading up the GUI due to an account type?

So I just attempted to download and install the MongoDB-Compass-Isolated-1.14.5.x86_64.rpm.

I downloaded to it my desktop and did a "yum localinstall mongodb-compass-isolated-1.14.5.x86_64.rpm" which installed it with no problems. However when trying to start compass with the command "DEBUG=* mongodb-compass-isolated"  or just with "mongodb-compass-isolated" nothing happens. I am expecting the GUI to come up but nothing. I am root user on this particular private VM as well so no need to use sudo.

According to Mongo Docs the isolated version does the following:

-restricts network requests to TLS-encrypted TCP connections to the server chosen on the Connect screen. All other outbound connections are not permitted in this edition.

The following features are not available in Compass Isolated Edition:

  • Automatic updates
  • Telemetry data collection via Stitch
  • Map rendering in the Schema view via third party services
  • Intercom
  • Error collection and crash reporting

That's interesting. Has anyone tried installing the Isolated Edition of Compass instead and seeing if this happens with that? Isolated Edition is a full-featured version of Compass that does not make any external network calls, for example auto-updates being one of them.

Is the MongoDB compass able to be installed on a private server not connected to the internet? I suspect somewhere in the install the install script is calling a "hadron auto update manager" which is feeding to a api URL. I was able to see this hadron auto manager on the debug when installing on my laptop which loaded the GUI with no issues. However on a private sever nothing produced. Have you seen this before?

Thank you for providing those details, we are looking in to this.

I am getting the same issue.

I am downloading the rpm from the website version 1.13

Then installing via: sudo yum install mongodb-compass-1.13.1.x86_64.rpm

I attempt to start it via: sudo DEBUG=* mongodb-compass;

But nothing happens. It complains about missing libraries which I have on my computer already but are 32 bit for some reason even though I am in a 64 bit architecture. So I install the 64 bit missing libraries and re-run the command: sudo DEBUG=* mongodb-compass

But nothing happens.
