 Description

Placeholder from invision discussion to triage later.

We can detect 1. if the user has `mongod` installed already 2. whether there is an active `mongod` actually running (and dynamically, the host:port). (We've had devtools for years that could be applied+productized).

It would be slick if we used those two data points to adapt the experience

  • if local `mongod` running, show a button that indicates that with a one click autofill+connect. "MongoDB Server is already running on your laptop. Click here to connect to it now"
  • if `mongod` running and localhost:port connected to previously "Ready to share your app with the world? Click here to get started with MongoDB Stitch and Atlas for free".
  • if the version of `mongod` running is old (say pre-4.0), "It looks like its time for an update to your MongoDB. Click here for a guide or signup for a free MongoDB Atlas account to make sure you always have the latest and greatest experience for working with your data. "
