There are several ways to approach case-insensitive search depending on your matching requirements. A recommended starting point would be using Case Insensitive Indexes in MongoDB 3.4+. You can also perform case-insensitive pattern matching using $regex, but note that as at MongoDB 3.6 case insensitive regular expression queries generally cannot use indexes effectively. The $regex implementation is not collation-aware and is unable to utilize case-insensitive indexes. Please also note that the DOCS project is for reporting documentation errata or suggestions.
