| Description |
DescriptionThe documentation of arbiters has this misleading sentence: "Arbiters participate in elections in order to break ties." https://docs.mongodb.com/manual/tutorial/add-replica-set-arbiter/ This fuels a widespread misunderstanding that elections can only be decided if there's an odd number of participants, or that an arbiter is always necessary to decide any election, both of which is not the case. The sentence should read something like "Arbiters participate in elections just like full data-bearing nodes, so they can be used in situations where setting up a regular node is not feasible or desired."
