The web page https://docs.mongodb.com/manual/core/databases-and-collections/ says the following:

In MongoDB, databases hold collections of documents.

This is not correct. "collections" hold collections of documents (ie., records). databases hold collections of "collections"

That's the difficulty of using a generic term ("collection") for a specific meaning ("set of documents"). I guess even the person writing the documentation got it confused.
