| Description |
DescriptionThe main issue is to not able to find the correct steps to shard a collection in MongoDB Atlas. The only documentation found around that was at this page: https://docs.atlas.mongodb.com/data-explorer/global-writes/ But the step 4 mentions a tab for Global Writes, which I don't see in my shared cluster. Not sure how I can create and test a sharded collection from MongoDB Atlas.
Is it not possible to shard a collection from Atlas. Do I need to use the command line to connect to Atlas sharded cluster and use the commands to enable sharding and to shard a collection. Scope of changesImpact to Other DocsMVP (Work and Date)Resources (Scope or Design Docs, Invision, etc.) |

Hi bizjuned1@yahoo.com, we're in the process of updating the Global Writes page to make this behavior a bit clearer. But to your question about this being possible in Atlas, if you're looking for a "general" (non-global) sharded cluster, you must enable that functionality through the Command Line. For instructions, please see Deploy a Sharded Cluster. |

Global writes are not supported on shared clusters and require an M30+ tier cluster, as noted on the Global Clusters page. This limitation could also be made clearer on the Shard Global Writes sub-page, so I'll add a note there. Currently, there is not a way to shard a "regular" (non-global) sharded cluster in Atlas. You must do so through the shell or application code. |
