 Description

Hello, I think this may be more of an enhancement than an actual problem. I would like a way to automatically roll log files after they hit a certain size. I have search the documentation high and low and do not see where this is possible - other than manually issuing a logRotate command. Maybe a setting in a config file that sets logfile size upon rolling? This would be a great feature to have as our log files are getting excessive in size. I know I could also start the server in 'quiet' mode. Thanks in advance!

This is actually a feature request for the core product (see SERVER-8909) rather than the documentation. To rehash slightly:

  • Your best bet is probably to use the Syslog facility in mongodb 2.2.
  • As an alternative you can configure logrotate to handle logrotation outside of MongoDB, which should allow you to accomplish this.

Hope this helps!
