| Description |
|
The first time a cluster is accessed through mongos, we need to be able to create a document in the config.version collection to make sure every subsequent mongos uses the config data in the same way. This requires all three config servers online for the very first mongos when the cluster data is empty. |

I pushed a minor update to note that the config servers need to be up when initializing a shard cluster. |

Is it that the first time an individual mongos accesses the cluster all config servers (either 1 or 3) need to be online (so: if I had an existing cluster and I add a new mongos, does it need to write to config.version?) or is it the case that when the cluster is first brought online all config servers need to be available (a one time thing)? |
