 Description

http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/reference/command/geoNear/

Instead of saying:
"For a GeoJSON point, use the following syntax:"
"For legacy coordinate pairs, use:"

Should say:
"For querying a 2dsphere index, use...."
"For querying a 2d index, use...."

A 2dsphere index can be composed of legacy coordinate pairs, so this language is confusing.
