 Description

http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/reference/command/compact/#disk-space

Currently the docs say that running compaction will require "a little bit" of extra space.

The compact operation requires up to 2GB of free space to compact the data (maximum extent size).

During the compact operation itself, index creation can use temporary storage as well if the index size exceeds the max in-memory threshold (100MB in 2.5) for external sort files. The size of this storage will be up to the size of all the secondary indexes.
