Currently we mention on the Journaling page under the "Journaling Internals" section that you need journaling on in order to take snapshots. http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/core/journaling/#journaling-internals We should list this (along with alternatives) prominently on the backup page as this is a caveat to performing viable backups. Ideally with a large note in the "Backup Considerations" section. http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/core/backups/ |
