 Description

Hey guys,

Thanks for the great tutorial. I've managed to create my own instance and it's working very well.

One small issue you have here, when you describe how to create the EBS volumes, you recommend using 4X4 GB volumes with Raid10, and giving 5% to then "/journal" partition. I didn't notice the recommendation of "at least 10GB for the journal and log" until later, and its connection to the 4GB volumes, and just completed the tutorial as written.
When I did this and tried to start the mongo server, it said I need at least 4 GB for the journal.
As a result, I had to redo the whole thing, with 4X30GB volumes, and giving 10% to the log and journal partitions.

I recommend you somehow either change the tutorial so that it either gives you the required 10GB for the log and the journal (using for example 4X30GB volumes), or at least point this out to the users that the numbers you put in the storage configuration should be changed for a live instance.

Thanks again!
Ido

We've recently updated our recomendations and redirected the tutorial that you reference to the following page http://docs.mongodb.org/ecosystem/platforms/amazon-ec2/ which I believe addresses your underlying issue.
