 Description

A customer asked me if we have a matrix that he could look up to easily figure out what platforms/filesystem/OS we recommend. Might be a good idea to have something of a 'recommendation matrix'.

I am not sure about the best practices around doing this. Personally, I prefer the document format but then I wanted to throw this one in to make sure we at least give it a thought.

The matrix format seems to the choice for Ops Managers (as was told to me by this customer who had lots of experience in Ops). A quick google search shows Interoperability Matrix from NetApp, Virtualization Matrix from Oracle etc. Have a look, if it doesn't make sense for us to do a similar thing feel free to close this request.

This obviously needs to be ported to the new docs at some point, but I think a format like this is generally preferable to a matrix for this information.

Are you aware of another collection of this information? This risk with presenting all of this information is that, except for very low level generic information about file systems, 32/64bitness, kind of recommendations often represent potential endorsements of a vendor and/or product or would by definition reflect our own supported platform list (and therefore be redundant.)

Does this make sense, or am I misunderstanding the request?
