| Description |
|
"compact requires up to 2 gigabytes of additional disk space while running. Unlike repairDatabase, compact does not free space on the file system." After testing compact command, it seems it takes much more than 2GB additional space. We've tested it on 438GB partition with 90% capacity (part of 4 shards) and the compact was failed. Please advise. |

compact allocates up to an additional extent of maximum size (2GB) which it uses to do the compaction. i'd be curious to see your particular case as it would be a bug. |

It's fine that it needed more space and it's not consistent. The problem is that the documentation is misleading and can be understood that in all cases compact need only 2 GB additional space, and this is incorrect. |

This behavior is not consistent with the implementation of compact. If you could open a support case in one of the MongoDB support cases, we can help track down the exact cause of the issue you're encountering.
