The index bounds rules get quite subtle and complex for multikey indices, especially when combined with $elemMatch or when the index is also compound. Someone from the docs team should probably sit down with me to get the details and decide how / if we want to document this. The behavior has not changed substantially since 2.4, but I don't think it was ever doc'ed in the first place. |
