 Description   

While our RPM and DEB installations create the 'mongod' or 'mongodb' user, we don't talk about this in the documentation. I'd suggest the following:

  • Explicitly stating in the Linux installation guide that we recommend creating a user to own the MongoDB binaries
  • Explicitly stating that we recommend against running 'mongod' as the 'root' user
  • Mentioning that it's OK to give that user a login, even if the RPM install does not
