 Description

The first step in our migration logic is to build all missing indexes on the TO shard (compared to the FROM shard): https://github.com/mongodb/mongo/blob/r2.6.1/src/mongo/s/d_migrate.cpp#L1662

This feature allows our users to add new shards and they don't have to worry about building indexes there manually. It's important to note that the index builds are propagated to secondaries.

We should specifically document this feature, otherwise the implications can be unexpected and.. surprising
