 Description

Many of our customers have questions regarding the best practices for setting up a replica set across two sites, for the purposes of having a disaster recovery location.

These discussions always include a few common topics:

  • How a majority is needed for elections.
  • The value of a third site arbiter (possibly in the cloud).
  • The value of having a full data node in third site, in place of arbiter.
  • The pitfalls of manual reconfiguration at disaster time, to try and make the two site solution work.
  • If you must do two sites, steps for going into DR mode, as well as coming out of DR mode.
  • Setting replica priority so the main site is primary when possible.

Having a tutorial or other page which explains all this clearly is very much merited.
