 Description

this article was fairly clear and self-explanatory, but it is a little bit of a pitfall not explaining how to change permissions for your /data/db directory. a one-liner like this: 'sudo chmod 777 /data/db' might solve the problem, although of course, it's hard to recommend anything regarding permissions.

Leaving current permission steps as-is to allow users to adapt the instructions as necessary to their scenario.

Like you say, there's no one-size-fits-all solution to permissions, and unfortunately, our OSX installation guide cannot become a full Unix administration tutorial.
