 Description

Can we create a new section in the doc's which is an automation section and contains a "cookbook" of code examples.

This page would be for things like:

  • How to backup a sharded cluster from one machine with a simple bash script
  • Simple maintenance scripts
  • How to iteratively issue commands to a number of hosts

I think the tutorials section of the manual addresses or can address these kinds of documents/procedures/code. (http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/tutorial/)

For unsupported automation examples, 10gen-labs may be a good place to house some of these scripts, or perhaps some serious curation/testing of the MongoDB Snippets repository (https://github.com/mongodb/mongo-snippets). I think the solution to this need is to spend more time curating and testing existing resources and not to add a new resource which might lead to more confusion.
