 Description   

1. the user running mongod must be able to write to the pidfilepath
2. the debian/ubuntu package (at least, perhaps others) track the pid of the mongod instance in the initscript (saving the file as root). If you specify the /var/run/mongod.pid file to mongod in the config for pidfile path when using the init script it will fail.

Expanded pidFilePath option explanation to highlight the more common use of a system's init system to handle PID and PID files, with additional clarification around matching pidFilePath with fork.
