I made a comment on the pull request, as I saw that first. I have reopened this as the pull request and source material are very different and that needs to be fixed. This http://www.mongodb.org/display/DOCS/The+Database+and+Caching talks about application level caching outside of the database and the pull request confused things a lot. This page really is getting down to the point that the document (object, used in the wiki – which we should stop doing) is closer to the used structure in the application and therefor is more rich, which means that the work of transforming tabular (joined tables) data into a rich object-graph (in application code) and then storing it in a cache outside of the database is no needed. It is not needed because the usable form of the data is directly stored in the database (making is useable as both the persistence store and cache – if you have enough memory). |
