 Description

RE: http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/reference/connection-string/#uri.maxPoolSize

A special mention should be made of the Node driver on this parameter, for two reasons:
1. The default is 5.
2. The number given is treated as a mandatory target, rather than a limit - see NODE-493 and NODE-498.

A number provided in this field which is safe for most other drivers, such as 500 for the Java or C# driver (numbers of 1000 are common in the wild), may use much more resources than expected, or even pose a threat to the server, when used with the Node driver.
