deb http://downloads-distro.mongodb.org/repo/ubuntu-upstart dist 10gen

Is a line that you add to the

/etc/apt/sources.list.d/10gen.list

file, not a command that you use on the source list.

To reduce confusion I've made the commands in the <http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/tutorial/install-mongodb-on-linux/> document more copy/paste-able.

I'm going to go ahead and close this ticket for now, but feel free to reopen or follow up, and I'll make additional changes as needed.

Cheers,
sam

Try http://fastdl.mongodb.org/linux/mongodb-linux-x86_64-2.2.0.tgz to download, we're investigating why the published link does not work.
The "deb" command only works on debian, have you tried the instructions here: http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/tutorial/install-mongodb-on-ubuntu/ ?
