The default (and suggested) data catalog on Windows 7 should absolutely not be directly under C:\ . This is catalog pollution. It should of course be under C:\ProgramData\MongoDB. Reporter: Per Lindbeg |

I'm closing this for now, we do already write that you can put the data directory anywhere and with the MSI I assume choosing the data directory will be an option. |

The msi will be installing on c:\program files if you install the 64 bit msi on 64 bit or 32 bit on 32bit. If you install the 32 bit msi on a 64 bit machine it will install into c:\program files (86). As pointed out earlier in any production system your mongodb data directory is prob a separately mounted volume. |
