 Description

https://github.com/mongodb/docs/blob/master/source/tutorial/install-mongodb-on-windows.txt#L64

We can't have people extract to C:\.
A typical Windows 7 install doesn't let you write files there.
We could have them extract to c:\mongodb or something similar.

While there are still problems with the installation guide, we're tracking that revision process elsewhere, and the specific issues addressed in this ticket are addressed by the MSI installer and recent edits to these files.

Cheers,
sam

A user with no privileges may be restricted to their "user" directory (e.g. %USERPROFILE%\MongoDB ... C:\Users\Sam\MongoDB) but I don't know that this is really the target audience. You could suggest the "should work in all cases" %USERPROFILE%" option but suggest that C:\MongoDB might be more convenient if they have privileges to create a directory there.

As a command-line oriented suite, directories with spaces in their names make life more challenging because of the need for quotes to delimit pathnames.

Windows standard location would be something like "%PROGRAMFILES%\MongoDB\", although I don't think users typically have the ability to create directories there either..
tad does that seem right?

I'm unfamiliar with the best/common practice for file system organization on production Windows systems? Is C:\mongodb consistent with the convention or would it be like telling someone to extract to /usr/mongodb or similar?

Who would be the best person for this?
