The link (http://docs.mongodb.com/manual/tutorial/create-an-auto-incrementing-field) seems broken. Thanks! |

We removed that tutorial from our documentation. It described processes that ran counter to best practices for the _id field. If you are looking for the procedure in general, you can find it here in an older version of documentation. We must emphasize that the processes documented in that tutorial should not be used for the _id field. Generally in MongoDB, you would not use an auto-increment pattern for the _id field, or any field, because it does not scale for databases with large numbers of documents. Typically the default value ObjectId is more ideal for the _id. Thank you for reaching out" |
