In this page: https://docs.mongodb.com/manual/core/kerberos/ there is the following line:

By default, Kerberos attempts to identify hosts using the /etc/kerb5.conf file before using DNS to resolve hosts.

The default conf file is actually called /etc/krb5.conf (no "e").
