| Description |

Lockfiles should not be included in backups/snapshots as they can cause mongod not to start when restoring dbpath directories that include them. We should add a mention of this into the doc's. |

I think we should add a comment to the effect that mongod.lock files need to either be removed from the snapshot, or removed prior to starting a mongod off a snapshot, perhaps here: http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/administration/backups/#block-level-backup At least something mentioning the role of mongod.lock. If I was restoring from a clean snapshot to a clean system, my first thought wouldn't be to look for the tutorial on unexpected shutdowns. |

I think this document addresses this question: http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/tutorial/recover-data-following-unexpected-shutdown/ I'm going to close the issue now, but if you have additional questions, or think that this document needs more details feel free to reopen. |
