http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/administration/ulimit/#review-and-set-resource-limits It says you can change the max number of open files to 20000 with
But that fails on Amazon Linux EC2 instances with this error:
This link describes how to do it (and how it is persistent as well): We should mention this on our documentation since many customers will probably work with Amazon Linux on EC2. |

It would have probably took less effort to actually just give a sentence of what is needed for a common cloud distribution (EC2), than what was put forth in the explanation of why you were not doing it in this ticket. |

this document does not mention or describe specifics for different distributions of linux, and I think that's beyond the scope of this document to give instruction on operating system-specific configuration processes. Not only is that outside of scope, but given the fact that we theoretically support countless distribution there's no good place to draw boundaries on this, and more importantly no good way to keep track of changes in behavior as things change in various distributions. I'm adding a sentence to tell people to refer to their operating system instructions for clarifications on procedure. |
