At https://docs.mongodb.com/manual/tutorial/configure-auditing/, the following is stated: . I have verified that if log rotation is forced using kill -SIGUSR1 <mongod process id>, then both the audit file and the log file will be rotated at the same time. However, if the mongod process is restarted, then the mongod log file will be rotated, but the audit file will not be rotated. |

The startup behavior hasn't historically been considered a log "rotation", although it sure seems like it should be. |
