 Description

This new Docs section on the MongoDB Atlas docs should be linked to from within the UI for new users (currently the UI links to http://blog.cloud.mongodb.com/post/146993789415/atlas-on-day-one-importing-data).

We'd like this new docs page to list the best options currently, and also set expectations that a new standalone utility, in development, and soon to be in beta, is rolling out at the end of this month and will make it easier to keep a source MongoDB replica set in sync with a MongoDB Atlas cluster, allowing lower friction migrations.

Tasks:

  • Create new page "Import Existing Dataset into Atlas"
  • Replicate blog post as far as best options
    • mongoexport -> mongoimport (noting this loses a lot of metadata, may have issues)
    • mongodump -> mongorestore (noting to remove the sytem.users metadata. Is there other metadata in system. that might cause issues, e.g. replication info?)
  • Add section on upcoming beta 'mongomirror' project minimal-downtime transition

One note - dumping from a sharded cluster is somewhat perilous. Perhaps link to this tutorial?
