The documentation should say what the default is, and the range of valid values.

Empirically (and code seems to agree), the default is 120000, and a setting of zero means infinite.

This information was added in the 2.8 series of the driver and is in the latest version: http://api.mongodb.org/java/current/com/mongodb/MongoOptions.html#maxWaitTime

All the available api versions are available from the java root: http://api.mongodb.org/java/
