| Description |

Instead of navigating to the install directory under Program Files or an overridden custom directory, have shortcuts to any installed binaries in a start menu folder to run them from there. |

After a careful backlog refinement, the team decided to close this ticket because of its low priority and limited resource capacity. If you believe that this ticket requires additional attention from the team and should be re-opened, feel free to change the status to "Needs Scheduling" and ping me or alexander.neben@mongodb.com |

To be more clear, the binaries almost work without command line parameters. I think the MSI's should create c:\data\db\ and create a start menu group so after you run the MSI you can more easily start the server and shell. |

I think it would be useful to have mongod work with defaults in a popup cmd window started form the start menu. When I walk through the total path-of-least-resistance user process of downloading the installer and getting to a mongo shell I can type inserts and queries into, that step of manually navigating to the install directory jumps out at me as the most arduous task I have to do. Isn't it standard to look for recently installed items in the start menu? It would at least keep that easy installation workflow if we have a README there or something saying to navigate to the install directory. |

Not sure how useful that would be, since you have to start the binaries with command line parameters to make them useful. |
