While MSI and RPM files are great, some users prefer the simple easy installation/upgrade process commonly used in the open source edition with no behind the scenes installation . Given raw binary files that we can simply drag and drop and replace others with is a good option to have. |

As MongoDB matures, the number of third-party library and operating system dependencies will grow, particularly in the enterprise edition. It won't be possible to do a safe upgrade without an installer in the future. If enterprise customers want to script their own install, this is still possible from the packages and installers that we provide. |
