Allocation of a new data file is blocking the complete mongod process which is unlikely an acceptable behavior for production sites in the long run. Allocation of database files could happen in a dedicated thread without blocking the complete server. The asynchronous creation of a data file should be triggered as soon as the latest database file reaches a (configurable) high-water mark - let's say 90%. |

This has always been true. There was a bug in one version. Are you not seeing this? What version are you running? |
