When building the "dist" target in Unix, scons calls make_archive.py which calls "tar cvfz" which fails if the "tar" executable doesn't support the -z option, such as in Solaris 10. |

Yep, Solaris' native tar doesn't support -z; it's either gtar if it's installed, or tar | gzip. |
