When chained replication is used (the default) a replica with buildIndexes false cannot be used by a node which has indexes to replicate from; this is true for both initial sync and regular secodary/recovery replication. Since the indexes are recorded on each node, even if not built, they should be replicated just fine. |

After looking a bit more into it, this will not work because we do not store the index definitions on the nodes with buildIndexes:false. |
