 Description

Hi
we are trying to create a geo spatial countries collection in mongo,
after inserting all the counties polygon - we are trying to create a 2dsphere index on that collection,
we get an error, after reading on the issue I have seen some entries which say you can't create a spatial index which has an area greater than half of a sphere, and I guess my countries combined have a greater area the the size of half a sphere..
is there any solution for the issue? any ideas?

Hi Matan,

If you store each country in a single document, then you should be fine, as long as each individual document does not span more than half of the sphere. This looks like you may have one or several polygons in your collection that are larger than a half sphere. Perhaps a scaling error or a flipped plus/minus sign. I would recommend that you go through the polygons and double-check that they are all correct and don't violate that limitation.

If you have further questions about this, please post them on the mongodb-user group (http://groups.google.com/group/mongodb-user) or Stack Overflow with the mongodb tag. A question like this involving more discussion would be best posted on the mongodb-user group. The SERVER project is for reporting bugs and feature requests, unfortunately we can't provide user support here.

Thanks,
Thomas
