Starting on version MongoDB 2.7.8, MMAPv1 uses powerOf2Sizes allocation by default and support for padding has been removed altogether. As explained in SERVER-15273, this is required to make the new freelist work correctly in O(1) time without any scanning – please see SERVER-15273 for further details.

Users with insert-only workloads can benefit from SERVER-15373 by using the noPadding option.
