 Description

I just tried to install MongoDB from the downloads-distro.mongodb.org repo on a Debian 7.

The process fails with the following output:

Setting up mongodb-org-server (2.6.7) ...
invoke-rc.d: unknown initscript, /etc/init.d/mongod not found.
dpkg: error processing mongodb-org-server (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 100
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of mongodb-org:
 mongodb-org depends on mongodb-org-server; however:
Package mongodb-org-server is not configured yet.

dpkg: error processing mongodb-org (--configure):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
 mongodb-org-server
 mongodb-org
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

The init.d script links to a nonexistent file:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 Jan 14 00:11 /etc/init.d/mongod -> /lib/init/upstart-job

No problem! Thanks for taking the time to file a JIRA. You can vote or comment on SERVER-13504 if you'd like to help prioritize a fix to make that error case easier to diagnose.

Argh, you're right. I copied the source line from a vagrant setup file which is based on Ubuntu Sorry and thanks for the help.

Can you post your apt source line? It looks like you're pointed at the Ubuntu repo instead of the Debian repo.

I just wanted to note, that this is a fresh virtual machine I just installed moments ago. I'm fairly certain that this could be reproduced. I've only issued a handful of commands after commissioning the VM.
