We build two versions of MongoDB for windows: the first, mongodb-win32-x86_64, which is compatible with all Windows systems, including versions before Server 2008 and the second, mongodb-win32-x86_64-2008plus, which is only compatible with Windows Server 2008 and newer. If you're using a new version of Windows, use the second build, otherwise you can use the first.
Both Windows builds are packaged in two formats: a "signed MSI," which includes an installer, and a zip file that includes all MongoDB binaries and associated tools. Both packages contain the software, the only difference is in the way that you install and manage the installation. The MSI process is prefered for most use cases, but the zip file may be useful if you have your own installation and provisioning infrastructure.
See the MongoDB Installation on Windows tutorial for more information.
I'm going to go ahead and close this ticket: the SERVER project is for reporting bugs or feature suggestions for the MongoDB server. For MongoDB-related support discussion please post on the mongodb-users group
or Stack Overflow with the mongodb tag.
A question like this involving more discussion would be best posted on the mongodb-users group.
