 Description

As of 3.2.0, index access statistics are only recorded for user operations. We do not record index use by internal operations, which include:

  1. TTL index use to remove expired documents.
  2. Index usage for chunk split, move and post-move deletion.

We need to either:

  1. Make clear in our documentation that statistics are only recorded for user operations.
  2. or add index access recording for these operations

The intended behavior, at least for the time being, is that indexUsageStats only count operations initiated by a user operation on the client. This will be documented in DOCS-6765. Closing as "Works as Designed". If in the future we find that the user workflow around indexUsageStats would be simplified by counting internally issued operations, we can reconsider.

DOCS-6765 created to adjust our documentation.

Should note in docs in the meantime
