 Description

I work for a start-up company reThinkData LLC, we have undergone an effort to have an AWS hosted mongo replica set running over SSL and using Cloud Manager services such as backup, monitoring, and automation. We have been back and forth with support from Cloud Manager and AWS about what the proper way to setup this environment is. We have reviewed various documentation regarding proper setup and configuration, and have been through various configurations at which point at least one or more of the services do not work together, understanding that there is probably something that we are missing from our configuration. We are looking for resources that can illuminate all the various necessary components to configure this environment properly. Currently we have setup 3 EC2 VMs that are using the elastic IP (Public IP Address), we have purchased three certificates, one for each host, and are attempting to replicate over those elastic IP addresses using SSL. We had trouble connecting to the mongodb instances after setting up this configuration, so we contacted AWS support in which they provided us documentation on how to setup various components of their services, such as Virtual Private Cloud using a NAT'd infrastructure. We like to know from Mongo's standpoint if you have any information regarding this setup and configuration that can help illuminate the proper setup and configuration of this environment, and/or any support specialist that have experience in setting up this scenario that can help us get going. We are already well late on this project, and are trying to get to the end goal of production release. We already have built the code in nodejs to use this infrastructure.

Here is the documentation that AWS has provided, although they state that setting up Mongo is outside of their support services:

https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/mongodb-on-the-aws-cloud-new-quick-start-reference-deployment/

https://docs.mongodb.org/ecosystem/platforms/amazon-ec2/

Please let us know if there is someone in your support infrastructure that can help, and/or provide us any further documentation that can assist us in this process.

Thanks,

Brian Deitrick

Hi Deitrock,

Thanks for your report. Please note that SERVER project is for reporting bugs or feature suggestions for the MongoDB server. For MongoDB-related support discussion please post on the mongodb-users group or Stack Overflow with the mongodb tag. A question like this involving more discussion would be best posted on the mongodb-users group.

Please see also our Technical Support page for additional support resources.

Kind regards,
Thomas
