 Description

Users looking to reclaim space via the compact command currently receive very little information upon execution completion in both the console and the log files. Users would like to know more details about the completion particularly when the command completes successfully however has effectively made no changes to the filesystem.

Please include a more detailed output in the log files and the shell. Information such as the following:

  • What if anything did the command actually do?
  • If it didn't do anything then why not?
  • How much disk was released

A log statement was added indicating the amount of total usage freed (stable storage + index size), along with a corresponding response in the shell.

The work for this ticket will be only to report how much disk was released, as the other bullets were determined to be too difficult.

Thanks vick.mena, sending this request to the Storage team for consideration.
